It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Stephen Charles Slanker, age 75, of Tipp City, Ohio. Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 52 years, Lona (Stout); children, Jennifer and Joel (Stacy); grandchildren, Theresa, Gracie, Lucy and Shepherd; brothers, Daniel (Valerie) and Ted; cousins, including Terry Studebaker; and many others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Geneva Slanker (Studebaker); brother, Craig Slanker; and sister in law, Anne Slanker.
Steve was a graduate of Bethel Local Schools and attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. As a young adult, he worked as an apprentice with Process Equipment Company and later was the manufacturing and assembly manager with Laserplane for almost twenty years. He retired after another twenty years of work as facilities manager at Stillwater Technologies.
Steve served the area in numerous volunteer positions including Board Member and President of the Bethel School Board, member of the Bethel Community Civic Association and at the Tipp City Library. He was an active member of the Studebaker Family National Association and served on multiple committees including Tippecanoe Christmas in the Village and Canal Music Fest.
Steve loved helping people and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who had a project he could tackle. He also never met a stranger and was known for his outgoing, friendly nature. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed many years riding with his “biker gang.” He was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be planned for June 5, 2022 at the Bob & Jeanne Studebaker farm. More details will be posted on Facebook at a later date.
