Shirley L. Whitmer, 76, of Troy, passed away October 27, 2023 at Kettering Health, Kettering. She was born May 14, 1947, in Dayton to the late Russell and Mary (Fowler) DeMint. She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Whitmer; he preceded her in death in 1987.
She is survived by her daughter, Moya (Bill) Mote of Tipp City; three grandchildren, Will Mote, Ethan Mote and Nicole Ridenour; numerous great-grandchildren; sister Sharon Hall of New Carlisle; and stepson Randy Coblentz. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, son Russell Ridenour, fiancé Paul Coblentz, and stepdaughter Donna Spencer.
Shirley worked in management at several retail stores over the years. After her son’s accident and brain injury, her life became devoted to caring for him. She was the leader of the Dayton-area Brain Injury Association. Shirley enjoyed her friends, traveling, bowling, playing cards, darts and board games. She was a faithful friend, amazing mother and grandmother and a light in this world that will be very dearly missed.
Private graveside services and burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MADD Ohio (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), c/o Laura Seger, 6536 St. Rt. 718, Pleasant Hill, Ohio 45359. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Frings & Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City.
