Roger C. Van Malsen

Van Malsen, Roger C. passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at Hospice of Miami County with his loving granddaughters and great granddaughters by his side. He was born January 5, 1933 in Grand Rapids, MI to Menno Mersman and Esther Hughes. Roger is preceded in death by his birth parents, adopted parents; Cornelius and Allie {Wierenga} Van Malsen and sister; Lois Ruth (Gordon) Van Malsen Frye. He is survived by his loving wife; Arlene J. {Waalkes} Van Malsen, daughters; Lori (Perry) Souders and Sheri Holl, granddaughters; Kelli DeYoung, Stefanie Hawkins, Amy Patterson and Allie Holl, eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; David, Neal and Mary and brother; Jon Mersman.

Roger was a 1950 graduate of Wyoming High School, Wyoming Park, MI. He was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. Roger received his Associates Degree in Engineering from Grand Rapids Junior College in 1957 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1959. In 1968 he began working at A.O. Smith Corporation in Tipp City as a regional sales and product manager until he retired in 1996. Roger was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9582 in Vandalia.

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at VFW Post 9582, 4170 Old Springfield Rd., Vandalia, Ohio 45377. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests condolences be made in Roger's memory to the Vandalia VFW Post 9582.
