Robert Kuhls died at the age of 87 on Thursday, March 4, 2021 in Sidney, OH. Bob was born in Dayton, OH to Henry and Marion Kuhls. The family including his older sister, Carolyn, later moved to a 200-acre farm in Vandalia, OH. Dad grew up enjoying all aspects of farm life including the farm animals, his beloved dogs, and the wildlife in the woods surrounding the grain fields. The farm was also the site of many church, youth group baseball games and family gatherings at the picnic grove. During high school, Bob, nick-named “hot rod red,” (for his auburn hair and cool car) played the saxophone in the marching band and enjoyed spending times with his friends especially his best friend, Basil Theodoras. After graduation from Vandalia Butler HS, Bob served honorably in the US Navy for four years during the Korean War. He also attended Bowling Green State University. In 1959, he settled in Tipp City, Ohio where Bob, always the extrovert, was a salesperson for Metropolitan Life Insurance and an active member of the Jaycees. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Eagles, the Masons, the IOOF, First Lutheran Church in Dayton and later Zion Lutheran Church in Tipp City. When the airline industry surged in the 1960’s, he shifted to work at Trans World Airlines (TWA) in Dayton, Ohio and later Columbus, Ohio until he retired. During retirement, he earned his Associates Degree in Counseling at Edison State College. Dad was always a devoted fan of hockey and was a season ticket holder of the Dayton Gems Hockey team and later other teams in the area. He enjoyed fishing locally and loved fishing trips with friends in Canada. When his health began to fail, he moved to Dorothy Love (Ohio Living) and enjoyed time with his peers and always had a kind word and a smile for all. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Carolyn Taylor, his Uncle Carl and Aunt Margaret Jenkins and his nephews Lawrence Douglas and David Linn Taylor. He is survived by his daughters Jackie (Cordell) Kuhls-Schachter and Vickie (Rob) Blakey and his grandchildren: Jillian (Jack) Blakey, Kristen (Drew) Sanders, Phillip Schachter, Megan Schachter and his niece, Elizabeth Taylor (David) Albert. A graveside service was held in New Carlisle where he was laid to rest beside his parents.
