Michael Begley Obituary

Begley, Michael John, age 74 of Tipp City passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born to the late John Lawrence Begley and Elizabeth Rosalie (Laukhart) Begley on September 30, 1946, in Dayton Ohio. Michael is survived by his daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Begley and her fiancé, Aaron Marker, his son, Matthew James Begley, and his wife, Kari Jodi (Koesters) Begley, his ex-wife, Barbara Jane (McCranie) Begley, his sister, Maureen Hopkins (Terry), niece Kari Graham (Eddie), nephews Jon Murph (Michelle), and David Murph (Beth).  The family hosted five exchange students and he considered them his children also:  Mika from Japan, Chantal from the Netherlands, Nina from Austria, Valentino from Italy and Andres from Ecuador.

He attended Chaminade Catholic High School and Patterson Co-op.  After graduation in 1964, he attended Wright State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree and was a member of the first graduating class of Wright State University in 1968.

Michael proudly served in the United States Army as an X-Ray technician during the Vietnam Era.  After serving in the Army, Michael began his civil service career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and continued his service until his retirement in 2007 after 38 years.  

Michael enjoyed traveling with his family and he planned many trips traveling across the US and abroad.  Some of the highlights were a train trip to Montana, a weeklong stay in Rome and an excursion to Dubai.  He also went on several pilgrimages with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to the Holy Land, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Jordan, and France.

Michael was an avid sports fan.  He followed The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns, and attended many Tipp City sporting events.

Michael was a parishioner of St. John’s the Baptist Catholic church in Tipp City.  He worked with the church to resettle multiple refugee families and also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul homeless shelter in Dayton.  Along with his volunteer work at St. John’s he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Social Services. 

Visitation 10:00 AM until time of Catholic Mass at 11:00 AM will be held in honor of Michael on Thursday, September 23 at St John’s Catholic Church 753 S. Hyatt St. Tipp City, OH; Father Andrew Smith, Celebrant.

Arrangements have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St. Tipp City, OH 45371

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Homeless shelter or Catholic Social Service of Dayton.
