Helen Stevenson Obituary

Stevenson, Helen Elizabeth (Rogers) age 98, of Tipp City, OH passed away on May 7. 2022.     Born in Denver, CO on April 25, 1924 (the second of eig­­­­­ht children) to Garland James & Elizabeth (Vogel) Rogers.   Along with her parents  she was preceded in death by brothers: Phillip (USN, WWII), Frank (USN, Korean War), Mitchell (Dorothy), and William (Carol) both of Wiggins, CO; sisters:  Juanita (Fred) Mizer (CA), Dorothy (Paul) Encheff (Denver, CO)  and Loretta (Joe) Kahanic (Pueblo CO); and her son-in-law Tim Farron of Tipp City, OH.   She is survived by her daughter Carol (Stevenson) Farron of Tipp City, her son Jim “Stretch” Stevenson (Jill) of Troy, OH and her grandson Scott Farron (Tracy) of Denver, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Raised in Ft Lupton, CO on the family farm, Helen attended business school in Denver, CO., where she met and then married her husband of 45 years, Jack, in 1943.   Upon his separation from the US Air Corps, they moved to Fairborn, OH, where eventually both Jack & Helen began employment at Wright-Patterson AFB until their retirements in 1974.    In 1955 they moved to Bethel Twp., in Miami Co., until their two children graduated from Bethel School.  In 1967 they returned to Fairborn where Jack passed away in 1985.    In 2003, Helen moved to Spring Meade Senior Retirement Center in Tipp City, OH.  She was a member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church; NARFE and the Montgomery County Genealogy Society.  As an avid, award winning quilter, she was a charter member of the Miami Valley Quilt Guild, member of the Lady Quilters and several other area quilt clubs.  She displayed her quilted art at many shows & quilt invitationals, across Ohio and KY including the annual Bob Evans “Down On The Farm” in Rio Grande, OH, winning many first and best of show prizes.  She loved traveling, researching her family history, sewing, family gatherings and she was known for always laughing and smiling.   In 2015 she moved to Randall Residence in Tipp City where she remained until she passed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Church in Tipp City on Friday, May 20, 2022 beginning at 11:00 AM; Father John Tonkin Celebrant.   Visitation will be held in St John’s narthex from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow the mass at Bryon Cemetery in Xenia, OH.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen’s name to St John’ Casserole Fund, 733 S. Hyatt St, Tipp City, OH 45371 or Ohio Hospice of Miami County, 3230 N. County Rd 25A,  Troy OH 45373.  Arrangements have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME.
