Gerald "Jerry" K. Huntsberger

Huntsberger, Gerald “Jerry” 83, of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away February 12, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family after battling cancer.  He was born in Troy, Ohio, to Carl and Hazel Huntsberger on November 27, 1939.  He grew up in Tipp City with his sisters Connie and Claudia and brother Kevin.  He attended Tipp City Schools where he would meet his wife Karen and eventually return to become a teacher in the very school system where he grew up.

He attended the University of Dayton to earn his teaching degree with a master degree from Ball State University.  He then secured his first job in Wooster, Ohio to begin his teaching and coaching career.  Teaching a variety of subjects and coaching almost every sport you can think of.  He then went on to teach at Meadowdale High School in Dayton before eventually returning to the Tipp City School system.

While he enjoyed teaching, he also evolved his career to be the Community Schools Director and then multiple jobs in sales and administration.  He loved being outdoors, fishing, camping, and arrowhead hunting.  He mostly loved just spending time with his family and friends while telling stories and encouraging a game of euchre.  He attended Nashville United Church of Christ where his great-grandmother donated the land for the church to provide a place of fellowship.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who created a nickname for everyone.  He even had one for himself as he was commonly known as “Big J”.  He looked forward to visits with his kids and grandkids and instilled in them a love for family and encouraged them with thoughtful wisdom and quotes especially “just one day at a time”.  He had an amazing memory and told entertaining stories, usually with a witty twist just to make you laugh.  Even in his last few days, he had a sense of humor about things and the people around him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen who he was married to for 62 years, children; Kim Hagen of Tipp City, Ohio, son-in-law Kurt, Carl Huntsberger of Charlotte, NC, daughter-in-law Tami, Kurt Huntsberger of Arcade, NY, daughter-in-law Janette, grandchildren; Christian and Daniel Hagen, Taylor and Mckenzie Huntsberger.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation with family Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Tipp City Global Methodist Church, 8 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371 at 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bonita Ritchie officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to Ohio Hospice of Miami County, 3230 N. County Rd. 25A, Troy, Ohio 45373.  Arrangements entrusted to Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City.
