Obituary

William B. York Sr. 88 of Tipp City, OH. passed away on June 3, 2015. He was born on December 15, 1926 in Still Run, W.V. to Stewart and Clair York, and was the oldest of their 13 children. Bill was preceded in death by his Mother and Father Stewart and Clair York, His wife of 61 years Peggy (Cook) York, a brother Carl York, and brother in law Ronnie Cook. He is survived by his only child William York Jr. and daughter in-law Sharon York. He is also survived by 11 siblings Clarence (Wilma) York, Louise (Robert) Middleton, Charley (Frankie) York, Dorsey (Ronald) Karl, Geneva Benton, Roy (Tina) York, Bonnie (Bill) Blanton, Betty Edwards, Jim (Alicia) York, Richard (Katrina) York and Karen Holsten, brothers in-law, Clifford Cook and Albert Cook, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, Beau York, Vanessa (Luke) Thoma, Demi York, Hope York and four great grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and pop. He attended Mullens High School until he joined the U.S. Army. He received his diploma from Wyoming County Schools in 1947, after he was honorably discharged. He was a United States Army Veteran in the 351st Infantry where he received an Army Occupational medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and WWII victory medal. He retired from GM after 32 years. He coached baseball for Patterson Co-op, Chaminade & Chaminade Juliene. He enjoyed pheasant hunting & bred German short haired pointers and had several champions including Best of Breed at West Minster. He sold his farm and it was developed into York Meadows. He spent several years as the most supportive Grandpa going to Hockey games, figure skating competitions near and far and softball games. Bill spent a great deal of time doting over his great grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing, walking, cooking, watching the ball games, and spending time with his family. He was known and loved by the community. He will forever be remembered & loved in all our hearts. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Tuesday, at Woodland Mausoleum, 118 Woodland Ave. Dayton. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Services have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371.
