Robinson, Thurman M., age 90, of Tipp City, Ohio passed away March 10, 2011 after a brief illness at Good Samaritan Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Opal Robinson; children, Carolyn (Jack) Kinninger, Arcanum, OH, James "Bud" (Debby) Robinson, Dayton, OH, Sena Robinson, Centerville, OH, four grandchildren, Jeffry (Miki) Robinson, Matthew (Marci) Robinson, Amy Kinninger, Mandi Kinninger; nine great-grandchildren, Kate, Lauren, Caroline and Annie Robinson, Abby and Elise Robinson, Jarrod, Emma and Sydney Archer; brother HR "Jerry" (Juanita) Robinson, Tipp City, OH; sister-in-law, Helen Seagraves, Tipp City, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mattie D. Robinson; half brother Hollie Jordan; sisters, Madeen Evans, Flora Cartee, Ethel McClave, Virgie Boggs, Mildred Bergeron and brother, William (Shorty).
Thurman was born August 13, 1920 in Olive Hill, KY. He served in the CCC before moving to Kayford, W. Va, where he worked in the coal mines. There he married Opal Robinson August 30, 1941. He was a proud veteran of the Greatest Generation, and served in the US Navy where he took part in the victories at Utah and Omaha Beach in the invasion of Normandy, France.
In 1946 they settled in Tipp City, Ohio and started a family. Here he started up the Little League Baseball program and Cub Scouts Pack 395. He also received the key to Tipp City. He retired from Davis Buick, Dayton, Ohio and The Tipp City School System. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 586 and the VFW, Vandalia Ohio. He loved his gardening, reading and writing and most of all he cherished time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services 10:30 AM Monday, March 14, 2011 at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St. Tipp City, Ohio 45371, Dr. Richard Culp, officiating with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City. Visitation 3 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Thurman's memory to a charity of your choice.
