Shirley Anne {Black} Rawlins, age 93 of Tipp City, Ohio passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026. She was born to the late Theodore Robert and Martha {Staup} Black in Columbus, Ohio. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Thomas L. Rawlins, brother Theodore Robert Black Jr., and granddaughter Jennifer (Kenny) Schoeb. She will be missed and remembered by her surviving sons Craig (Dee) Rawlins, Jeff Rawlins, and Brent (Kim) Rawlins all of Tipp City. Also surviving are grandchildren; Chris Rawlins, Kevin Rawlins, and Amy (Nathan) Colston, as well as, seven cherished great grandchildren.
Shirley was a 1950 graduate of Tippecanoe High School where she was a cheerleader. She was a homemaker until her sons were all in school at which time she volunteered her time assisting area migrant workers through the Methodist Church. She spent 17 years working as a teacher’s aide in the Tipp City School system where she met and worked with many people she would become lifelong friends with. She was also a Miami County poll worker.
She was a meticulous and enthusiastic landscaper and gardener. Her lawn, which she mowed twice weekly up until this year, was the envy of her neighborhood and her flower gardens would rival any of similar size. She was an energetic and zealous walker. She loved traveling the country. She was a ferocious Scrabble player, anybody, anytime, anywhere.
A visitation will be held from 10-11:30 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 14 W. Walnut St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371, with the funeral service to follow. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Shirley’s honor to please consider the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Miami County Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City. Online condolences may be expressed at www.fringsandbayliff.com.
