Ruth H.
Sell
November 17, 1937 – November 17, 2016
Ruth Hanshaw Sell passed away on her 79th birthday, November 17, 2016. Born in Olive Hill, KY, Ruth spent her formative years in Tipp City and graduated from Tippecanoe High. She and her husband (former), Earmel, began their marriage in Miami, Florida where their son, Tim Sell (Kathy), and daughter, Pam Sell, were born. They returned to Tipp City where their last child, Mark Sell (LD), was born. Ruth remained in Tipp City where all three of her children graduated from her alma mater. Ruth was a long time fixture at the Grub Steak Restaurant where she served as a waitress for decades. Kicking and screaming, she finally retired not long ago. She was a tough minded business woman who used her entrepreneurial spirit to build a small real estate business in the Dayton area. Some of her tenants will miss her. Through the years and these experiences, Ruth was blessed to have several friends that she enjoyed and loved..
Known for her cast iron skillet cornbread and soup beans which her family has tried to replicate for years, but unable to perfect. Ruth had many passions, but without a doubt her heart and undying sacrifice was for her family. Her grandchildren: Breann Zickafoose (Jason), Samantha King (Brian), Jennifer Funk (Mac), Alicia Sell, Davis Sell and Sally Sell; and great grandchildren: Lucy and AJ Zickafoose were pure joy for her. Her family was and is the great accomplishment of her life.
Besides her parents, Russell and Lily Hanshaw, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Beatrice Carpenter, Mary Adams and Holline Mullins. Also preceding her were brothers: Russ, James and Philip (Tex). Her sister, Clara Brewster, still resides in West Milton. There are many other family members and friends scattered throughout the nation that will be mourning her departure.
A Celebration of Life Reception is scheduled for November 22nd at Frings & Bayliff Funeral Home in Tipp City, Ohio. The reception will be from 5:30-7:30 with a eulogy at 7:30. There will be a private family burial the following day.
