Born September 18, 1927 in Laurelville, OH to George Fox and Mabel {DeHaven} Bowers. She is preceded in death by her parents, and 3 brothers; Joe, Dick and John Bowers and close friend, Betty Perry. She is survived by one brother, Robert "Bob" Bowers and his wife Eleanor, Laurelville, OH as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth spent her young life in the Circleville, OH area. As a young girl she worked on the Laurelville Fruit Farm which was founded by her parents. It has been in operation for 104 years and is currently run by third generation family. She was the Valedictorian of her 1945 graduating class of Laurelville High School where she was also a cheerleader. Ruth then graduated in 1949 from Capital University, Columbus, OH receiving her Music Education Degree. Upon graduation she began her teaching career in Sandusky, OH before moving to the Tipp City area in the early 1950's where she taught at L. T. Ball Middle School for many years. Continuing her education, she earned her Master's degree from The Ohio State University in 1963. She served for 2 years at Tipp City and 15 years at Troy High School as a school guidance counselor before retiring. Education and her love of music were very important to Ruth. She continued to share her love of music by teaching private piano lessons. She enjoyed serving on the National and International Children's International Summer Village "CISV" Board. Ruth became involved with CISV and was a camp leader in Denmark in 1959 taking four Tipp students with her. She was the director of the Miami County Village in 1960, was Assistant Camp Director in Guatemala in 1963 and in 1964 she was head of the Camp Committee Planning Board and arranged for the camp to be held at Urbana College. She was a member of the Laurelville Trinity Methodist church, was very active in the Tipp City United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her good friend, Betty Perry, who was more like a sister to Ruth, spent many years together as friends sharing their days attending community events, church and visiting family and friends until Betty's death in 2012.
