Richard Emmett Porter “Dick,” age 90, of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at StoryPoint in Troy, Ohio.
Dick was born on October 29, 1935, in Elsah, Illinois, to the late Emmett and Violet Porter. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 wonderful years, Dixie Lee Porter; his daughter, Donna Franklin; and his siblings, Carl, Dorothy, and Fern.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra (Robert) Shelby of Leesburg, Florida, and Denise (Larry) Hunter of Tipp City, Ohio; son-in-law, Vince Franklin; grandchildren, Doug (Joy) Trent, Dawn Lyttle, David Lyttle, Brian (Katie) Wooddell, Andrew (Stephanie) Wooddell, Daniel (Lauren) Trent, and Casey (Heidi) Wooddell; 19 cherished great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Dick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted at the young age of 16 and served during the Korean War at just 17 years old. His dedication to his country remained a source of pride throughout his life.
Following his military service, Dick began a long career as a Systems Technician with Ohio Bell, continuing through the transition to AT&T. He retired in the late 1980s and soon found a new way to serve others, using his many talents to help local senior citizens with home improvement projects.
Dick was a gifted woodworker and a true “fix-it” man who seemed to be able to repair anything and everything. His talents were perhaps most meaningful when he built the family home in West Milton, where he and Dixie created countless memories. He passed his knowledge and love of working with his hands on to his daughters, teaching them to be handy and self-sufficient.
Dick and Dixie enjoyed traveling in their camper with their camping club, making many wonderful friends and memories along the way. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. But above all else, Dick treasured his family. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and especially loved spending quality time with them.
Dick will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, skilled craftsman, dedicated veteran, and a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. His legacy lives on in the home he built, the skills he passed down, the countless things he repaired, and, most importantly, in the family he loved so dearly. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371, with funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Pam Hitchcock will officiate.
