Obituary

Gillette, Richard (Dick) Lawrence, 95 passed away Monday, March 05, 2018, in Tipp City, Ohio. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 08, 1922, he was the 4th of 6 children, to Harold and Laura (McLaughlin) Gillette. He attended school in Coffeyville, Kansas. He worked for Boeing in Seattle, and then moved to Vallejo, California to repair ships. He became a WWII United States Naval Aviator Fighter Bomber, Lt JG, after completing V-5 instruction at Wooster College, Western Michigan, University of Iowa and the Naval Air Station in Minneapolis. He received his wings at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas and was part of Squadron VBF7 in the South Pacific, flying off aircraft carriers and later part of the search crew for missing Flight 19. He married Dorothy Brunkhorst on February 09, 1947. They relocated to Dayton, Ohio where he was employed by NCR. Their home was built in Miami County, and he worked for the AO Smith Corporation for 23 years. Richard was a member of the Tipp City Lions Club and past President. In 1977 they moved to Grapevine, Texas where he worked for Campbell Taggart, Dallas. He was later self employed as a finish carpenter and made a hobby of wood working and gardening. Richard was an active member of Concordia Lutheran, Oakwood, a Charter Member of Mt Calvary Lutheran, Englewood, a member of Zion Lutheran, Tipp City, Peace Lutheran, Hurst, Texas, and Crown of Life Lutheran, Colleyville, Texas. We are grateful to Pastor Ken Castor and Pastor Joel Sutton for continued home visits. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife, Dorothy. He is survived by daughter Debra Gillette, Tipp City, son David (Becky) Gillette, Ft Worth, daughter Deanna Gillette, Tipp City, grandchildren Jay Shipe, Clayton (Cindy) Shipe, David Gillette Jr, Roxann (Aaron) Glick, Wesley (Kristen) Gillette, Matthew Gillette, great grandchildren Jaycie Shipe, Leah Carrothers, Kristin, David III, and Justin Gillette, Cassandra and Alec Slaby, Caden and Kayli Glick, and Jaxon Gillette, great, great grandchildren Carson and Cason Kinney. Richard was loved by many friends and family. Richard and Dorothy had pre-arranged the placement of a memorial bench at Bluebonnet Hills, Colleyville, Texas. A celebration of their lives will take place there, early this Summer. Arrangements entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, Tipp City, OH.
