Obituary

Gibbons, Rex Hal age 74 of Tipp City, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, July 20, 2026. He was born June 15, 1952 in Troy, Ohio to James and Elizabeth “Betty” {White} Gibbons. Rex is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Melody “Mikki” Gibbons, brother Patrick Gibbons and sister Paula Hines. He is survived by his beloved step-daughter Angela (Lucas) Sandlin-Smith, sister Vicki Kauffman and brother-in-law Gary Hines. Also surviving are grandson Corey Sandlin and nieces and nephews; Lisa Kerrick, Tina Davis and Sterling Kauffman.

Rex proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Tipp City VFW. Following his military service, he built a career in California near Seal Beach, where he worked as a machine welder on Boeing aircrafts and B-52 bombers.

Rex had a lifelong love of music and took great pride in his extensive album collection. He found joy in the outdoors, delighted in long bike rides, playing tennis and traveling throughout the United States with his wife. A true basketball fan, he enjoyed every opportunity to play the game, watch it, and share his passion for the sport. Known for his kind heart, Rex lovingly cared for the neighborhood cats, making sure they were always fed and looked after.

Above all, Rex was devoted to his family. For several years, he was the primary caregiver for his beloved wife, Mikki, providing her with exceptional care, unwavering love, and steadfast support. His compassion, generosity, and dedication to those he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.

A Visitation will be held 10:30 AM until time of service at 11:30 AM on Friday, July 24, 2026 at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371.
