Obituary

Barnhart, Norman Eugene age 92, of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 18, 2022.  Norm had friends wherever he went and had more stories than he had time to tell.  He led an adventurous life with enthusiasm and energy, and proudly called Tipp City his home for his first 20 years and his last 22 years.  He was born in Covington on January 22, 1930, to the late Claude Cornelius and Frances (Van Hise) Barnhart, graduated from Tippecanoe High School in 1948 and joined the Navy in 1950 with a few excursions in between.  After leaving the Navy, where he flew as a Radioman, he returned to southwest Ohio and met his future wife, Marianne Elizabeth (Frank), at Wittenberg College.  They married in 1956 and moved to Marianne's hometown of Akron, then to Cuyahoga Falls, where they together raised sons Mark (Janice), Eric (Barbara) and daughter Jeannette (Pat) and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church.  In Akron, Norm pursued a career in credit information services and insurance claims with Retail Credit Co. and The St. Paul Companies.  The family moved to Winter Park, FL in 1974.  After retiring from St. Paul, he worked with CNA Insurance for a few years before he and Marianne relocated to Tipp City in 2001, where they called SpringMeade home and became members of Zion Lutheran Church.  Norm enjoyed precious time with his grandchildren, travel with his brothers overseas and at home, exploring southwest Ohio with friends, and golf with buddies old and new.  He also enjoyed Tipp High sports and volunteered to talk with Tipp elementary students about growing up in "ancient times" as part of the 3rd Grade Tipp History Program.  Norm relished his time with friends at American Legion Post 586 in Tipp, Tuesday lunches at Hinders, Fridays at Harrison's and other places where refreshing beverages were generally available.  In addition to his wife Marianne of 66 years and his three children, Norm is survived by brothers Bruce (Nancy) of Grand Rapids, MI, Michael (Dixie) of Centerville, sisters Beverly Steele of Englewood, Kay Baker of Urbana, and Becky Oda (John) of Springfield, granddaughter Robin Devor (Scott) of Austin, TX, grandsons Andrew Barnhart of San Diego, CA and Patrick Barnhart of Atlanta, GA as well as great granddaughters Hannah, Elizabeth, Lydia and Abigail Devor.
