Obituary

Dayhoff, (Mary) Jean Howerton died August 19, 2014 in Bay Minette, AL. She was visiting her sister when she fell and broke her hip. She developed several complications that caused her passing. She was a resident of the independent living section of Springfield (OH) Masonic Community. Born March 2, 1922 in Bowling Green, KY; she moved to Dayton, OH in 1942 to work as a secretary at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where she was introduced to Harry Dayhoff. They married April 28, 1945. Harry died in January 1975. One of her missions after his death was to help other new widows learn how to enjoy life living independently. She was able to travel extensively for many years. She taught herself to knit, giving her family many beautiful sweaters, and afghans that are cherised. She is survived by two daughters Maryanna Levenson (Marty), Taylors, SC and Alice Dayhoff-Miller (J.J.), Springfield, OH. Also surviving are her older sister, Alicia May Adams of Atmore, AL: grandchildren Jeanne Spitler Brown (Rhett), Lyman, SC; Jeff Spitler (Deborah), Pristina, Kosovo; and Helen Miller, Springfield, OH. She also has 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Springfield, OH. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371, Pastor Gail Eastwood officiating; burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends for an hour before the service at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in loving memory of Jean and Harry to the American Heart Association.
