Hampton, Lowell Thomas age 79 of Tipp City went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born December 9, 1933 in Piqua, Ohio to the late George Washington and America Ann {Adams} Hampton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter; Caroline, 2 sisters, 7 brothers, 1 half-brother and 3 half-sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara {Yocum} Hampton, two sons; Rick and his wife Beth Hampton of Derry, NH and Randy and his wife Kim Hampton of Tipp City, four grandchildren; Kara (David) Brown, Columbus, OH, Aaron (Kari) Hampton, Vandalia, OH, Matthew Hampton, Derry, NH, Clay Hampton, Tipp City and great granddaughter Kasey Lynn Hampton, Vandalia, OH along with numerous nieces and nephews. Lowell's high school career was interrupted by the Korean War where he proudly served in the United States Army, rising to the rank of corporal. He spent his entire adult life serving others. He was a deputy for the Miami County Sheriff's Department, an officer on the Tipp City Police Department retiring in 1985. At the request of the City Council Lowell created the Tipp City Emergency Services, was a trained paramedic and served as Chief from 1974-1990 when he retired. He also lobbied for MVH Careflight helicopter. He was a long time member of Skyview Wesleyan Church and was known to family, neighbors and friends as "The Tomato Man". He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday March 1, 2013 at Skyview Wesleyan Church, 6995 S. Peters Rd., Tipp City with Pastor John Hughes officiating, burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in memory of Lowell to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420.
