Juanita Davis Core, 94, a long time resident of Ginghamsburg, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Grace Brethren Village. She was born November 29, 1915, in Miami County, the daughter of Everett and Mary Elsie (Cotterman) Pearson.
Mrs. Core grew up in Ginghamsburg United Brethren Church where as an adult she organized a youth fellowship group and led it for many years. When she and her husband moved to Otterbein Home, she was active at Otterbein United Methodist Church for 25 years, and was a member of the choir, the women's chorus, and baked pies for the annual Fish Fry. She loved to sew, and for a time taught sewing at the Vandalia YMCA. She was a dedicated Christian all her life, and was a member of Bible study classes, women's missionary societies and prayer groups. She was specially loved by her grandchildren for her chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her children, Mary Jean Davis of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Dale Edward Davis (Tena) of Sarasota, Florida, Thomas Dwight Davis (Pegeen) of Tipp City, and Michael Ted Davis (Mary) of Steele, Alabama; three grandchildren, Stephanie Branton, John Dunn, and Peter Dunn; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Bradford and Bradley Hunt; three stepchildren, Genette Chambers, Roger Core (Ruthanne), Cindi Snovel (Dennis); eight step grandchildren, Lori Richards (Jason), David Dodd, Jennifer Poston (Dondi), Nathan Chambers (Elizabeth), Ryan Core (Amber), Rebecca Core, Tonya Lee (William), Todd Snovel; nine step great grandchildren, Katlyn and Kara Richards, Shane and Savanna Dodd, Abigail and Micah Poston, Daniel, Natalie and Alison Core.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Dwight Emerson Davis and the Rev. Gordon Core, and her siblings, Pauline Heffner Scammahorn, Wilma Aubry, and Buddy Pearson.
The funeral service will be held at Grace Brethren Village Chapel, on Monday, May 24, at 10 am. Visitation will take place at the Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main Street, Tipp City, on Sunday, May 23, from 5 to 8 pm.
