Donauer, Joan Eileen, 70, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 9, 2018, at Miami Valley Hospital surrounded by her family. She leaves her devoted husband of over 49 years Michael W. Donauer; daughter, Tess (Rich) Sherick, grandchildren Kenny, Jackie, and Megan; daughter Carrie (Jim) Wood, grandchildren Ben and Jeffrey; and son Michael G. (Rebecca) Donauer, grandchildren Mattie, Hayden, and Annabelle. Born in Dayton, Ohio, and raised in Russia, Ohio, Joan was the sixth of eight daughters of Joseph O. and Mary A. {Hemmelgarn}Grillot. She leaves sisters Annette (Jerome) Goldschmidt, Patricia (Ronald) Francis, Mary Jo (Robert) Enneking, Carol (Robert) Huecker, brother-in-law Raymond Koenig, Barbara (Daniel) Creagan and Nancy (Lynn) Maurer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Louise Koenig. Joan battled with Parkinson's for nearly 20 years and did not let the disease slow her down. Following her diagnosis, she and her husband, Mike, took multiple cruises, including river boat tours of Germany and France. This love for travel took Joan to all 50 states over the course of her life. Always one to think of others, Joan was constantly baking and delivering treats, offering to help and spending her time volunteering with numerous organizations, especially at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she and Mike were members. Joan was a strong woman who was a supportive wife and a loving and caring mother. She loved to spend time with family, play with her grandchildren, read, sew, and was a very competitive game player who belonged to numerous card clubs. A visitation will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipp City, Ohio, on Sunday, April 15, from 4-7 p.m. Services will be held Monday, April 16, with a visitation at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:30 a.m. Donations in Joan's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131, or by visiting www.parkinson.org and selecting the donate option and then the tab for tribute gift. Arrangements have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371.
