James Robert Dapore, 76, of Tipp City, passed away surrounded by family on November 2, 2023. He was born in Greenville on February 5, 1947, to his parents Bernard and Josephine (Miller) Dapore. He was a 1965 graduate of Covington High School and later graduated from Sinclair College. He and his wife Marlene were married on August 20, 1976, and loved giving each other good-natured grief every day of their lives together.
James served in the U.S. Marines and worked for General Motors, retiring in April 1998 after 34 years of service. He was also a certified auto mechanic and worked part-time at various establishments.
Jim has a son, Heath "Fred" Knouff and his wife, Casey, whom he loved dearly and was very proud of his accomplishments. He also has two grandchildren, Raymond and Chelsea Evilsizor. He is also survived by a sister, Pam (Dean) Schaffer of Covington.
Jim was known for his love of cars, his snowmobile, his Taylor boat with nitrous, and his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was also known for having a dog by his side, mainly boxer dogs. Boating at Indian Lake and then moving to Grand Lake St. Marys, where he and Marlene enjoyed their home on the lake, and were surrounded by wonderful neighbors there. Jim never knew a stranger and was known for the jokester he was. Known by many as Dago, he will be greatly missed. He was also a member of the Tipp City American Legion, Vandalia VFW, Irish Club and Celina Moose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 8 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Vandalia. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Tipp City. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 PM Tuesday at Frings & Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Crossroads Hospice.
