James J.
Pentaudi
June 5, 1924 – January 31, 2013
PENTAUDI, James J., 88 years old, born in Dayton, Ohio and long-time resident of Tipp City and Vandalia, passed away peacefully on Thursday after a long illness, surrounded by his family and his wife of eleven years, Phyllis. A graduate of Stivers High School, James was one of eight children born to Bennie and Emma Pentaudi. He was an Army veteran and fought in Guam. After the war, he married his first wife, Martha, in 1948, then moved the family from Dayton to Tipp City in 1956. Jim worked as a long-time area sales representative for both the Keilson Company and then Daycoa Inc. But what Jim was most known for was his work and passion for baseball. Known to many as "Coach", he taught the fundamentals of hitting, catching, pitching and teamwork to boys and girls from the entire Miami Valley area. Always with the emphasis on the kids, Jim's love of the game was his reward. Jim's reputation for coaching was recognized with multiple offers to scout professionally but Jim preferred to concentrate his energy with young aspiring amateurs. Jim was also blessed with a wonderful singing voice and sang at many weddings and churches in the Dayton area. After retiring in his mid-70s, Jim and Phyllis spent much of their time visiting patients and friends in hospitals. Jim is preceded in death by his first wife, Martha, his brothers Benny, William, and Joseph, and sisters Marie, Rosie and Bunnie. He is survived by his second wife Phyllis, sister, Lucille Abbott, sons Dan, James and John, daughters-in-law Connie and Linda, five grand-daughters, Jamie (Haruki) Nakamura, Jacque, Christina, Kari and Kelli Pentaudi and two great-grandchildren, Hina and Hayden Nakamura. His family is confident Jim will still be yelling "Bee-da-bop, bee-da-bop, bee-da-bop Bo" at a baseball field in heaven.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipp City, Father R. Marc Sherlock officiating, burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dayton, OH. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371.
