James Joseph Charf, affectionately known as Jim, passed away on April 21, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Born on June 5, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, Jim was a man whose life was marked by dedication, both professionally and personally, and whose warmth touched the hearts of family and friends alike.
A proud National and State Go Cart Champion at the tender age of ten, Jim displayed a spirit of determination and excellence from an early age. His career spanned significant roles, including ten years as a Military Broker in Utah, where he combined his business acumen with a steadfast commitment to service. Later, he applied his skills as a salesman for Charf Enterprises, continuing to contribute meaningfully to his community and workplace.
Jim was a man who treasured the moments spent with his family and those friends who had become like family to him. His devotion extended beyond people to his beloved fur babies—Spooky, Jody, Rosie, Rascal, O'Riley, Joey, Charlie, and BJ—who brought joy and comfort throughout his life.
Among his personal hobbies, Jim enjoyed skiing during his years in Utah, embracing the beauty and challenge of the slopes. His civic engagement was reflected in his membership in the American Legion Post 586 and the Tipp City Eagles Aerie 2201, organizations through which he connected with others sharing his values and interests.
Jim's family was central to his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sandra "Sandy" {Null} Charf, and his half-sister, Darlene Lewis of Palm Coast, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Alta J. {Helmick} Charf, whose memories live on in his heart.
Throughout his life, Jim’s kindness, loyalty, and enthusiasm created a legacy cherished by all who knew him. His presence enriched the lives of those around him, and his memory will be honored with deep respect and affection by family, friends, and the wider community.
A private Celebration of Life is to be held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Jim's honor to please consider the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City. Online condolences may be expressed at www.fringsandbayliff.com.
