Allen Kent
July 5, 1942 – January 12, 2026
Kent, James Allen "Jim," age 83, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026, at The Laurels of Huber Heights. He was born July 5, 1942, in Enid, Oklahoma, to the late James Alger and Virginia E. (Poole) Kent, while his father was stationed at Enid Army Flying School, now Vance Air Force Base.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Karen Kent. He is survived by his children: G. Jack (Lindsay) Davis III of Tipp City, Ohio; Jeffrey (Taylor Choi) Davis of San Francisco, California; and Christian (Melissa) Davis of Perrysburg, Ohio. He is also survived by his siblings: Gary Kent of Utica, Ohio; Carol Sabato of Denver, Colorado; Gayle Kent of Westerville, Ohio; Elaine (James) Washburn of Newark, Ohio; Theresa (Michael) Pape of Heath, Ohio; and Tessa (Dick) Harvey of Pataskala. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Haley Davis, Jackson Davis, Kendall Davis, and Chase Davis.
Jim joined the ROTC while attending the University of Dayton. After one year at UD, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years as a Military Police Officer at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. He later graduated from Loyola University Chicago, made his home in Dayton, Ohio, and retired from the Montgomery County Auditor's Office in 2012.
The 1980s marked a new chapter in Jim's life when he met and married the love of his life, Karen, who brought with her three beloved sons. A devoted family man and faithful servant of God, Jim's life was defined by his love for his family, his service to his country, and his unwavering faith.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 753 S. Hyatt Street, Tipp City, Ohio 45371, with Father Kyle Schnippel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Tipp City.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses of the Miami Valley Heart and Vascular ICU and to Melissa, his nurse at The Laurels, for their dedication and compassionate care.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Jim's honor be made to The American Legion Post 586, Tipp City. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City. Online condolences may be expressed at www.fringsandbayliff.com.
