Herbert D. Wallach, 74, of Tipp City, Ohio passed away in the early morning of January 4, 2010 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Herb was born in Toronto, Ohio on July 20, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Alice Wallach and his brother David. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Jeanette. He leaves two children and six grandchildren: Mark and Sandy Wallach of Cincinnati with their children Hannah, Erin, John and Mark; and Jill and Doug Fisher of Springfield with their children Simon and Claire. He is also survived by his brothers Arthur and Lily Wallach of Akron, Ohio and John and Joyce Wallach of Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Toronto High School, all the while working in his father's grocery store, the Victory Market. He served 3 years in the United States Marine Corps as an aviation technician and crew chief. After his military service he earned his BS Degree in Aviation Technology from Kent State University under the GI Bill. While there he obtained his private pilots license, was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and met his wife to be, Jeanette. Later in his career he attended the University of Dayton Business School. He began his working life in the aviation industry with Boeing Airplane Company in Wichita, Kansas, and then moved on to North American Aviation in Downey, California, working on projects associated with the Apollo Space program. From there, he and his family returned to Ohio in 1965 and he began his 31 year career with BF Goodrich in Troy, OH. As a Sales-Engineer he was responsible for a variety of domestic and international wheel and brake projects in the areas of General Aviation (business aircraft), off road equipment, heavy trucks, helicopters and even the Space Shuttle program. Over the course of his life in Tipp City he enjoyed involvement in the Jaycees, Troy Softball League, and various golf leagues. He was a Life Member of the Toronto High School Alumni Association. He was a recent member of the American Legion and a longtime member of the NRA. He was a past President of the Tippecanoe High School Band Boosters and a past Committee Member for Boy Scout Troop 395. He was a past Chairman of the St. John's Worship Committee, an Usher for Mass and had recently joined the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid traveler, fisherman, hunter, golfer and supporter of his grandchildren's varied activities. Visitation and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 8, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 753 S. Hyatt St., Tipp City, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am with Mass following at 11:00 am. Services entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W. Main St. Tipp City, Ohio 45371 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice of Dayton or the American Cancer Society, Prostate Cancer Research, in his name.
