Frederick "Fred" David Zollers, age 41, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026. A devoted husband, proud father, dedicated law enforcement officer, and loyal friend, Fred lived a life defined by service, integrity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Fred was born on July 25, 1984, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, to Donald R. Zollers and Joyce B. Zollers. Soon after, the family relocated to Pleasant Hill, Ohio, where Fred spent his childhood and built the foundation of the life he would come to cherish. Fred graduated from Newton Local School District in 2003.
During high school, Fred's passion for personal watercraft racing led him to become a member of the International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA), Region 6. He achieved a second-place finish in his class at the 2003 Lake Havasu World Finals.
Fred went on to graduate from Edison Community College and the Police Officer Academy in 2005 with a degree in Criminal Justice; this is when Fred began a remarkable career in law enforcement. He joined the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in April 2006, where his professionalism, work ethic, and dedication quickly earned the respect of his peers.
In June 2008, Fred became a member of the Montgomery County Regional SWAT Team, eventually serving as a Team Leader. The brotherhood, discipline, and responsibility of the SWAT Team meant a great deal to him and remained one of the greatest honors of his career.
Fred also served in Community Oriented Policing beginning in 2009 and was assigned to the Deputy–Community Oriented Policing/Crime Prevention position in 2013. In 2015, he was deputized as a Federal Task Force Officer and assigned as a Detective with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. At the time of his passing, Fred continued to serve as a Detective with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force while also serving on the R.A.N.G.E. Task Force, where he investigated high-profile drug, weapons, and violent crime cases.
Throughout his distinguished career, Fred received numerous honors, including multiple Deputy of the Month recognitions, certificates of appreciation and recognition, the Miami Valley Crime Stoppers Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award in 2022, and Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Deputy of the Year in 2024. These awards reflected not only his exceptional work ethic, knowledge, and initiative, but also the deep respect he earned from those who served alongside him. Fred held himself to the highest standards, and his profession was not simply his career—it was a calling and a central part of who he was.
While Fred was deeply committed to serving his community, his most treasured role was that of being a father to his cherished daughter, Millie. He loved her more than anything in the world and was proud of her every single day.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Sally Zollers and their daughter, Millie; his parents, Donald R. Zollers and Joyce B. Dixon; his sister, Erin (Ben) Zollers-Cronin; his in-laws Carl and Barb Patton; his brother-in-law, Nick (Lindsay) Patton; and his beloved niece, Addy. He also leaves behind countless extended family members, friends- especially his lifelong best friend Stephen, colleagues, and fellow law enforcement officers, whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Though his time with us was far too short, Fred's impact was immeasurable. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
