Elizabeth
Macleod
September 29, 1915 – November 3, 2012
Elizabeth Anne McCormick MacLeod, Betty to all those who have known and loved her in her life of 97 years, died November 3, 2012 in her home at 10 Wilmington Place, Dayton. Born in Huntington Station, Long Island, New York, where she met her late husband, William (Bill), they married and moved to Vandalia, Ohio in 1939. Betty's life goal was to "raise a good family," and she and Bill raised and are survived by three children: Alexa McGrady (married to Tom McGrady), Malcolm, and Beth; as well as four granddaughters: Colleen and Patricia McGrady, Amy Gantt, and Alexa Storer; and two great-grandchildren: Michael and Alison Gantt.
The MacLeods lived in West Charleston, Bethel Township, Miami County, for 46 years. Betty was a Girl Scout troop leader with her dear friend, Eileen Studebaker. She belonged to the Community Club, to St. John's Parish in Tipp City, and contributed to the development of long-term-care facilities as a member of the Miami County Health Board. For many years, Betty enjoyed working at the polls for every election, and she met her goal of voting one last time. She and Bill both assumed leadership roles in Children's International Summer Villages (CISV) of Miami County, and for 10 years, Betty worked as a docent and spinner/weaver at Johnston Farm in Piqua.
Betty had a generous spirit and lively mind; she lived a deep faith, and had an abiding curiosity in humankind and sense of humor to her last days.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to the wonderful staff at 10 Wilmington Place, the kind caregivers from Home Instead, and the providers from Vitas Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 8, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipp City. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W. Main St. Tipp City, Ohio 45371. Donations may be made in memory of Betty to Vitas Hospice, Dayton or St. John's Church.
