Obituary

Dennis "Denny" L. Myers was born July 9, 1944; died Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Feast of the Ascension. His parents were Pauline "Pat" (Retter) Myers and Leroy "Roy" J. Myers.  His father was still overseas during WWII when he was born. He grew up on his family's multi-generational farm in Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio.  His maternal grandparents, his mother's two sisters and spouses, and his three young cousins all lived on the farm.  After his mother's death, he inherited the farm and named it Retter (Rescuer) Farm / Retterbauernhof.  It is the place a number of ancestors came to be 'rescued' from a problem in life.  It is now a Sesquicentennial Farm; the farm has been in his mother's side of the family for over 150 years (since 1869).  Dennis was the 4th generation living on this farm.  Denny was a lifelong animal lover and loved his years in 4-H as a teen raising prize winning Yorkshire pigs.

Denny lived almost all of his life in Miami County, OH, a place we all love.  He lived the first 22 years of his life and the last 10 years of his life on the family farm in Bethel Township, Miami County, OH.

Denny attended Bethel Local Schools (K-12).  He graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Dayton.  Denny served in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam war era (1966-1968), having TDY assignments in Vietnam and Bangkok.  He was always proud of his own military time serving the country, and that of his dad in WWII, and ancestors in the Civil War and the Ohio Militia in the War of 1812.  He was stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois where he met his future wife, Carol A. Neff.

Denny had careers at Ohio Bell, AT&T, and then Edison State Community College.  He built the computer technology program at Edison which, before he was hired, only offered a programming language as its computer offering.  At retirement, he was VP for Information Technology Services at Edison State Community College.

Denny always had a great love of family, present and past.  Denny had various interests over the years, but was always most proud of this farm and his family's history here.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol A. (Neff) Myers, and one son, Christopher R. Myers. The family will hold a private burial at New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Denny's honor to please consider planting a tree or donating to the Miami County Animal Shelter, 1110 N County Rd 25A, Troy, OH 45373. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City. Online condolences may be expressed at www.fringsandbayliff.com.
