Obituary

Fallert, David Martin 68, of Tipp City passed away at Hospice of Dayton on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2013. Born on July 3, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri to Martin and Verena {Woehr} Fallert. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister; Barbara Pizzo. David is survived by his loving wife of 18 years Ann {Sullivan} Fallert, Tipp City, children; Melissa and her husband John Magness, Lebanon, OH, Jennifer and her husband Brad Clark, Wilmington, OH, Sarah and her husband Scott Hoover, Tipp City, OH, Nick Fallert, Huber Heights, OH, Anne-Marie and her husband Steve Fisherback, Richmond, IN, Lynda and her husband Steve Ewing, Batavia, OH and Andrea Childers, Cincinnati, OH along with sisters; Sister Marilyn Fallert, St. Louis, MO and Linda and her husband Glenn Wegner, California , 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He attended McBride high school in St. Louis, and graduated from University of Missouri at Rolla with both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. David was a retired Lt. Col. from the Air Force in 1993 and a Vietnam Veteran. He had been an engineer with AK Steel and Honda, was a member of St. John's Church and the Knights of Columbus in Tipp City. David was a quiet yet strong force with a passionate care for others. He was a role model to his children and grandchildren impressing the need for hard work and family. A loving husband, companion, and best friend to his wife Ann who shared 18 wonderful years together which included many trips to Holmes County and visiting friends and family in other states. A great friend who gave freely of his time to his church; St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. David was passionate about learning and always asked questions. An engineer by trade, he would construct a beautifully hand wrapped gift with such precision from his inventory of reused boxes that filled his garage. A witty handwritten note would accompany the gift hinting its contents. His dry sense of humor could be easily heard with laughter from reading a Far Side Joke, or releasing a quick smirk or grin when he thought something was funny. He was meticulous in labeling his possessions with a permanent marker with his last name, "FALLERT". He made the best homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors. He loved to intrigue people with puzzles and incorporated mandatory games during family gatherings. He cringed when someone stepped in an oil spill in a parking lot. Consumer Reports guided all of his purchase making decisions. He loved a well-built machine and more importantly how it worked. He enjoyed explaining everything better in detail with a written diagram. He could tell you how many fire exits there were in building and where to go for safety. He had a knack for direction, and could direct you the right way. David was a Survivor. Humble by nature, he was not one to announce his 23 years of military service in the Air Force that included surviving an aerial attack that required ejection from a F4 jet and subsequent rescue by the Navy during the Vietnam War. His busy mind, no complaints attitude and optimistic outlook on life benefitted his surviving years battling pancreatic cancer. An avid watcher of the show, Survivor, David was always "Ready for the next challenge." His faith will carry us on through our journeys with his focus on these two verses in his last week. "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him" 1 Corinthians 2:9. And from a song by James Kilbane... "Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart." Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 753 S. Hyatt St., Tipp City, Father R. Marc Sherlock, Celebrant, burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W.
