Obituary

David R. Cook, 86, lifelong resident of Tipp City, Ohio passed on March 20, 2025.  Born on January 10, 1939, in his Grandma Ethel Cook's house to Walter Richard and Alberta Marie Evelyn (North) (Cook) Polley.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carol Sue"Susie" (Weaver) Cook, brother Larry and step-father Claude Polley.  He is survived by his brother Fred, as well as his two children Dianne Lytle and Chad D. (Stephanie) Cook; four grandchildren Jessica Lytle, Matthew Lytle, Ethan Cook and Samantha Cook; four great grandchildren Allison Kinzig, Abigail Nickels, Kaleb Lytle and Emma Lytle; many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.

Dave met Susie the love of his life at Tippecanoe High School in 1955.  He graduated in 1957 and then graduated from Sinclair College in 1959.  The couple married at Zion Lutheran Church on February 20, 1960.  Dave and Susie joined the Tipp City Jaycees which launched their lifetime of community service.  Dave was awarded the Jaycees Outstanding Young Man Award in 1969 and later life distinction of Jaycee Senator.  Of the many Jaycee projects Dave was most proud working on the City Charter committee.  Dave filled many positions in local government including many board appointments and elected to City Council and selected as the City's Mayor.  He was most proud of the establishment of the Emergency Medical Services, the Old Tippecanoe City Restoration District and serving on the funding committee resulting in the initial levy for Community Services.  Dave enjoyed membership in the Elm Valley Fishing Club, Tippecanoe Historical Society and the Sons of the American Legion.

Professionally he earned his Ohio architect's license in 1967 and was accepted into the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architects Registration Board.  Employers included Encrete Construction, Misel & Cook, Architects, Van-Ler Building Systems and Unibilt Industries until retirement in October of 2022.  Through the years he participated in the design of over 15,000 homes and many extra projects around the city including The Round House in the City Park and several churches. Within all his activities Dave always had time for family, fishing, pitching knuckleballs in slow-pitch softball and telling a great story, even if you have heard it before.
