Sevy, Darrell E., age 98, of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away on June 7, 2026 in Miamisburg, Ohio. He was born on June 02, 1928 in Charleston, West Virginia to William “Bill” and Nila Ruth (Hunt) Sevy and reared in Hico, West Virginia. He graduated from Nuttall High School in Lookout, WV with the Class of 1945.
Darrell proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as an Aviation Electrician and crew chief. He worked on both US Navy and Royal Canadian aircraft while stationed in Corpus Christi, TX. His unit mates affectionately referred to Darrell as “Grandpa” since he was several years older and always willing to mentor.
After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Darrell and his beloved wife, Louise, moved to Ohio where he would have a career at the Monsanto Research Laboratory in Dayton as part of the Nuclear Resources Group. Darrell remained with Monsanto until his retirement in November 1985. Darrell was also the founder and owner/operator of Sevy Services, a home exterior remodeling company based in Tipp City.
Darrell was actively involved with his family and in the community, attending numerous school functions with his children, helping his son build a Soap Box Derby car, becoming a leader with his son’s Tipp City Boy Scout troop, and serving as a both Deacon and member of the building committee for the Tipp City First Baptist Church. Darrell was a long-time member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Tipp City and the American Legion. He was also a member of the group that built the Wright Flyer Replica that hangs in the Wright State University library. Darrell will be remembered by most for his love of “tinkering” in his shop and his woodworking skills.
Darrell was preceded in death by his mother and father, his stepmother Pauline (Hash) Sevy, his in-laws Ruben and Olive Jane Hinkle, and all ten of his brothers- and sisters-in-law. Darrell is survived by his wife of nearly 78 years, Louise (Hinkle) Sevy, daughter Jeannie (Steve) Yeager, son Todd Sevy (Mona Payne), his five grandsons (Nicholas Sevy, Christopher Sevy, Benjamin Yeager, William Yeager, and Eric Sevy) and his three great-grandchildren (Nate Sevy, Owen Sevy, and Oaklynn Sevy). Darrell is also survived by his sister Joyce (Robert) Mers, of Greensboro, NC as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His mourners also include many dear friends including George & Julie Jones of Kansas, Dave & Connie Dexter of Tipp City and Gene & Mary Fleeman of Georgia.
Darrell’s family would like to thank the staff of Kingston of Miamisburg as well as Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care for their excellent care of Darrell. Darrell will live on in our cherished memories as a kind and giving person who never had a harsh word to say about anyone. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held 10:30 AM until time of service at 12:30 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main Street, Tipp City, OH. Internment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. As Darrell was not a man to stand on formality, his family invites you to honor him by leaving the suits and ties at home, instead dressing in a “Business Casual” fashion for his services. In lieu of flowers, Darrell asked that contributions be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org). Online condolences may be expressed at www.fringsandbayliff.com .
