Fabrigar, Carmelo Surriga M. D., Colonel (Retired), age 88 of Tipp City, OH Passed away on Friday, March 04, 2016 at Spring Meade Health Center. Born on July 17, 1927 in Dumalag, Capiz, Phillipines to the late Salvador and Maria (Surriga) Fabrigar. He graduated from the College of San Agustin and Manila Central University Medical School in 1954. Carmelo first came to the USA in 1955 for post-graduate medical training in general surgery. He became a United States citizen at his first opportunity on September 17, 1971. He had a long career with private practices in Sask, Canada and Ohio. He served two years as Chief of Surgery at the Firestone Rubber Plantation in Harbel, Liberia W. A. and retired from the U.S. Army Medical Corp. as a Colonel with 21 years of service. He continued to work as a civilian for the Army in the emergency room at Fort Benning, GA for 7 years until his retirement in 1999. During his Army career, he served in the Panama Canal Zone and Oklahoma. He commanded medical units in South Korea, West Germany (2), Virginia and Honduras. Dr. Fabrigar was a lifetime member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S., the Military Officers Association of America and the Association of the U.S. Army. Dr. Fabrigar is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline {Long} Fabrigar, his daughter, Francene {Fabrigar} Steward, Columbus, OH and two sons, Dr. Lee Fabrigar, Kingston, Ontario and Steven (Holly) Fabrigar, Tipp City, OH. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Christina and Patrick Steward and Luke and Leia Fabrigar. Surviving in the Philippines are brother, Rosario and 4 sisters, Erlinda, Charit, Gentiliza and Ernestina and a very special cousin, Veneranda Fabrigar and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wilfredo and sister Gloria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 753 S. Hyatt St., Tipp City; Father R. Marc Sherlock, Celebrant. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the mass on Monday. Burial will be in Sandusky Township Cemetery in Crawford County, OH. Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Dr. Fabrigar to the Alzheimer's Association, Miami Valley Chapter, 31 W. Whipp Rd. Dayton, OH 45459. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371.
