Sheffield N. Hyde

Hyde, Sheffield Nelson age 86 of Tipp City, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.  He was born on September 14, 1931 in Troy, Ohio the son of the late Burton and Thyra (Sheffield) Hyde.  He graduated from Mercersburg Academy and attended Miami University.  He proudly served with the US Army in the Korean War.  Shef was married to Caroline Saunders on October 8, 1955.  Upon his return from Korea, he began working for the Saunders Seed Company in Tipp City and was owner and operator until his retirement in 1996. He served on the board of the Monroe Federal Building and Loan, was a member of Rotary International, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was an accomplished trap shooter and a skilled woodworker. Shef was outgoing, gregarious, a true friend and touched the lives of many people.  He was preceded in death by both parents and his wife of more than 49 years, Caroline Hyde. Shef is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Thomas) Conrad of Northbrook, IL, and son, Dr. Sheffield (Susan) Hyde of Barrington Hills, IL, his sister, Mary Kathryn Zimmerman, Troy, OH, and his dear friend, Freda Ferguson. His grandchildren were among his greatest pleasures.  They are Martha (John) Gavin, William Conrad, Andrew Hyde, Emily Hyde, and Benjamin Conrad.  He was the proud great-grandfather of Caroline Gavin.

Visitation will be held at the FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371 on Tuesday, May 22 from 4-6 p.m. with a brief service to follow.  Donations may be made to Hospice of Miami County P.O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45373.
