Morton, Sarah Elizabeth {Nichols}, of Tipp City passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the age of 95 at the Grandview Medical Center. She was born July 19, 1923, in Ravenswood, West Virginia, the 8thof 9 children of Clara Blanche Rardon and Clarence Nichols.
Sally was a dedicated Reds and University of Dayton basketball fan, watching and attending games with her sons. Sally loved gardening and always had a home full of flowers and plants and a plentiful garden. Under her talented hands, she could not only bring any plant back to life, but she could make it flourish. She loved to can the vegetables she grew, and passed that love for—and intricate knowledge of—canning on to her son and to her granddaughters. She was also an avid quilter, always crafting her quilts by hand. Through her life she made hundreds of quilts that she gave to friends and family.
Sally loved little children, doting on neighborhood children and her great-grandchildren alike. She would watch old Elvis movies with her great-grandchildren, and they loved to help her put together puzzles (at which she was a whiz). She could often be found sitting on her front porch, watching out for the neighborhood children. The children adored picking up pinecones for her, playing games with her, and always receiving a special treat from her. Sally’s family would like to thank her neighbors for sharing their precious children with her.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence Morton, and her 6 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Morton (Andrea) of Sumter, SC and Frederick Morton (Joann Profitt) of Tipp City; her 5 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jamie, Jason, Savannah, and Annie; and her 12 great-grandchildren, with one more great-grandchild on the way.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 5-7pm at the FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 10am at the funeral home.
