Barnhart, Josef K. “Joe” age 86 of Tipp City, Ohio passed away, Sunday, June 24, 2018 at SpringMeade Health Center, Tipp City, Ohio. As the eternal optimist and leaving nothing to chance, Joe had written his own obituary as follows. Josef “Joe” Kent Barnhart, age 100 of SpringMeade Health Center, Tipp City, Ohio, born November 27, 1931 died today, November 27, 2031 from the complications of old age. He was the son of Herschel “Slim” and Pauline {Putterbaugh} Barnhart. His wife of 51 years, Helen {Janiszewski} died June 2012. He is survived by several cousins, a special in-law niece and nephew, Deborah and William Caines of Newport, Michigan and special friends, Mrs. Toby Mahan of Tipp City, OH, Mrs. Crystal Platfoot-Weaver of Dayton, Ohio and Mr. Nicholas Coffman. He was a graduate of Tipp City High School in 1949 and from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1953; earning a BS in Business Administration (Accounting) degree. After graduation he was employed by Aeroproducts in Vandalia and later Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Then by Defense Electronics Supply Center (DESC), Kettering, Ohio from which he retired in 1987 as a supervisory contracting officer and branch chief with nearly 33 years in federal government employment. He had been treasurer of the Tipp City Jaycees in 1957-1959. After retirement, he was a Laubach literacy tutor. He enjoyed wood carving and had been a member of the National Woodcarvers Association and the Brukner Nature Carvers Society. He enjoyed golfing for 40 years, playing chess and bridge, sports on TV, reading Charles Dickens and Winston Churchill and utilizing the Tipp City Public Library frequently. He is the great-great grandson of Robert Evans, a co-founder of Tipp City. His graveside service and burial alongside that of his faithful wife of 51 years; Helen will be in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Tipp City, Ohio on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM by FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made to charity of donor's choice.
