Dian Gitzinger Obituary

Dian Lynn Gitzinger age 72 of New Carlisle, Miami County, OH passed away peacefully on September 23, 2019 at 5:30 AM at Hospice of Dayton, after fighting a courageous battle to overcome esophageal cancer. She was born on January 23, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Doris (Griesheimer) Woeste. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mike Gitzinger, their three beloved sons, Michael (Sherry) Gitzinger of Dayton, Ohio, Shaun Gitzinger of Tipp City, Ohio, and Jamie (Susan) Gitzinger of Lexington, Kentucky, and her sister, Ellen Schwab of Vandalia, Ohio. She is also survived by her five precious grandchildren, Destiney Kriesel (30), Nicholas Gitzinger (29), Kayla Gitzinger (21), Tate Gitzinger (13), and Caleb Gitzinger (7), and three great-grandchildren. Dian graduated from Patterson Cooperative High School, and shortly afterwards met the love of her life, James Michael (Mike) Gitzinger. They were married on October 30, 1965, and while raising her three sons, Dian went on to graduate with her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from The Dayton School of Practical Nursing and her Registered Nursing degree from Kettering College of Medical Arts. As a nurse, Dian worked primarily in cardiology and internal medicine, both at Good Samaritan Hospital and in private practice for many years thereafter. Dian was a selfless person who truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with her friends and family. Dian had a knack for making every holiday memorable and birthdays for each of her sons were momentous occasions, creating lifelong, treasured memories for each of them. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and her joy for celebrating Christmas will be cherished by all she loved. Dian enjoyed gardening, archiving family photos, bird watching, girls’ trips with her sister, and family trips with her husband, sons, and grandchildren to Gatlinburg, Hilton Head Island, Florida, the Western US, Disney World, and many more locations. She was also blessed with her dear furry companion of 14 years, Tabby, who is most certainly rejoicing with her in heaven. Family, friends, and others whose lives Dian touched are invited to the Frings and Bayliff funeral home, 327 West Main Street, Tipp City, Ohio, from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, September 26, 2019, to reminisce and celebrate Dian’s wonderful life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 209 West Lake Avenue, New Carlisle, Ohio. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of Dayton in Dian’s memory, or to a charity of their choice.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
